Animal by Birth Date - Spirit Animal, Totem, Symbolism, and Meaning

For those interested in knowing more about the zodiac, here is a list of what your birth animal might be. Each one has been linked to an article that tells you all that there is to know from each astrological system and its relation to this sign. For example, Aries - based on western astrology - is assertive, courageous, and energetic with great leadership skills. Still, it can also be impatient or impulsive according to their horoscope. Pisces - based on Celtic Astrology - is ruled by Neptune, which makes them idealistic dreamers who long for peace on Earth yet often feel insecure when they belong somewhere other than where they live currently, according to their horoscope.

Zodiac and Birth Animal Totems

Western Zodiac Animals

Aries Zodiac Sign

Aries Birthday: March 21 – April 19

The zodiac animal of this sign is a Ram, which is ruled by Mars and embraces courage. People born under the Ram are also said to be active, adventurous, joyful, and passionate, with an aggressive side that can lead them into a confrontation at times.

Taurus Sign

Taurus Zodiac Birthday: April 20 – May 20

The Bull is ruled by Venus, the goddess of love and beauty. Those born under this sign are often terminal romantics with a lot of patience. They can also be surprisingly tenacious when they set their minds to something. However, there’s an earthy stubborn side that may cause them some challenges in situations where delicacy would serve better than brute force (i.e., “bull” doesn’t mean you’re too hot-headed for delicate tasks like china shops).

Gemini Zodiac Sign

Gemini Birthday: May 21 – June 20

The Twins are the symbol of Gemini. Though any animal doesn’t represent this zodiac sign, some teachers believe it should be associated with The Phoenix. This type of creature is full of vibrancy and creativity. They’re always up for a good conversation that will enlighten them in new ways about themselves or others around them. They are charming and witty creatures who can also be quite clever when need be! The air element has been known to rule over these beings with Mercury being their planetary ruler, which makes sense because those born under this sign have such quick minds at times that words often fly out before thinking. This trait is much like that of air which flows quickly without direction on its own accord yet leads us back into what’s real if we keep our eyes open enough.

Cancer Sign

Cancer Zodiac Birthday: June 21 – July 22

The crabs are known for their loyalty, intuition, and creativity. With the water element ruling them, they also have an emotional side to them that makes it hard not to empathize with others. They love the moon, which brings out things in themselves, such as being creative or deeply intuitive depending on what phase of the moon is happening at any given time.

Leo Sign

Leo Zodiac Birthday: July 23 – August 22

What’s your sign? We’re ready to help you find out! Are you a Leo? If so, know that a Leo is the most personable of all zodiac animals. They have great pride and will never forget a friend or family member that has been there for them in their time of need. When they see someone who needs attention, they are drawn like an irresistibly cute kitty cat with big paws everywhere.

Virgo Zodiac Sign

Virgo Birthday: August 23 – September 22

Virgos are sensible, intellectual, and down-to-earth people. They have keen minds that they use to achieve perfectionism in their everyday life. Virgo is ruled by the earth element (which we all know as dirt) which makes sense for them because of how practical the sign can be!

Libra Zodiac Sign

Libra Birthday: September 23 – October 22

Libras are creative and sensitive people who revel in the art of peace. These folks cannot stand conflict and will go to great lengths to avoid it at all costs - even if that means cheating or lying! Libras love their partners deeply, but they often have trouble committing for long periods. This makes them a perfect partner as you won’t need to worry about catching feelings during your lifetime together, once committed. However, this Libra’s life becomes yours too!

Scorpio Zodiac Sign

Scorpio Birthday: October 23 – November 21

This person’s zodiac animal is the Scorpio. A scorpion has quite a sting, typically coming out when this person is hurt or betrayed. This birth sign can be suspicious by nature, skittering around if something seems “off,” and you will find in them a true friend who’s full of vibrancy and life! They are psychics among the other zodiac signs because they pick up on things that others don’t notice so quickly, such as when someone is being dishonest with their intentions or feelings about certain events/conversations amongst friends.

Sagittarius Zodiac Sign

Sagittarius Birthday: November 22 – December 21

Sagittarius, the archer of enlightenment and transformation, has a body split in two: half human and half horse. These creatures have an insatiable thirst for adventure that can only be satisfied by seeking wisdom from those who came before them — the ancient Greeks.

Capricorn Zodiac Sign

Capricorn Birthday: December 22 -January 19

Capricorn, represented by a horned goat, is the sign of stability and responsibility, with a little bit of creativity that makes them stand out. Capricorns are generally honest people who can be two different types: air or water-oriented, depending on their zodiac animal’s symbolism.

Aquarius Zodiac Sign

Aquarius Birthday: January 20 – February 18

Aquarius is the sign of freshwater. This means that animals living in and around this environment are good symbols for Aquarians because they represent life-giving waters! The Aquarian personality lives a humorous life with quick wit: unique creativity makes them independent individuals who need true freedom to be happy.

Pisces Zodiac Sign

Pisces Birthday: February 19 – March 20

Pisces, born between February 20 and March 21, is the fish. Pisceans are ruled by Neptune, who controls their watery element. They have a calming temperament that can be easily swayed by others if not careful with how they swim in life’s waters every day of their lives. This makes them more likely to be taken advantage of, which could eventually lead to feelings like anger due to unbalanced emotions for this zodiac sign, according to Jeanette Renee Bennett from “Pisces: The 12th Sign Of The Zodiac.” A Piscean needs someone strong on land or at sea so as not to get pushed around too much throughout the course of their lifetime - they’re very sentimental creatures, after all!

Chinese Zodiac and New Year Animals

Chinese Animal Astrology takes place over 12-year cycles, with each cycle containing a specific creature. To find out what animal you are for this period of time (1996-2008), you can use the chart below. Say that someone was born in 1996 they would be classified as a rat because it is their zodiac animal during those years until 2008 when the next twelve-year cycle starts and moves to ox If we take another person who was also born in 1996 but has an April 28 birthday instead, they will have two animals: rabbit from 4/28/96 - 4/27/, the Horse from 4/1/-3/. This holds true both forward and backward for all the creatures listed on the table below! Scroll down to find your spirit animal.

Year of the Rat

Chinese Zodiac Rat Years: 1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020

It may not sound propitious to be born in the Year of the Rat, but this critter is very resourceful. You are a natural leader worthy of respect, and you don’t like being alone - social situations feed your soul. Rats are talkers even with themselves because that’s how they sort out thoughts! In life’s proverbial rat-race, know which way will lead to success? That cheese trap won’t ensnare you here as well when it comes to love. Better team up with bigger-than-life dragons or oxen who have their own impressive qualities too, or monkeys for all those laughs we need every now and then.

Year of the Ox

Chinese Zodiac Ox Years: 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021

Were you born in the year of the Ox? You’re a natural-born leader and are driven to achieve your goals. With an even temperament, you know how to push forward without burning bridges or creating enemies who will stop at nothing to stand in your way. The best animal mates for those born under this sign include rooster, snake, and pig due to their shared good qualities like being hardworking as well as having stable home life with loved ones around them always present!

Year of the Tiger

Chinese Zodiac Tiger Years: 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022

A Tiger’s life is an exciting one - they’re passionate, fierce, and swift to take action. They leap into opportunities but sometimes the wrong bandwagon too! In earlier times, you would have been a dashing, charismatic rogue always rushing off to your next big win. When it comes to romance, things are more complicated as tigers pair best with dogs or horses.

Year of the Rabbit

Chinese Zodiac Rabbit Years: 1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011, 2023

If you are a Rabbit, your life motto would always have diplomatic air with the right words and deeds. Rabbits also make for natural money makers as they do not use their wealth for flashiness but for more comfortable things in life. The best partners for rabbits are Goats, Dogs, or Pigs because of these animals’ stability that will provide security so one can relax when needed most!

Year of the Dragon

Chinese Zodiac Dragon Years: 1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024

Dragons have to be the life of the party, and if there’s a spotlight, they will find it. Those born under this sign are natural leaders who love drama and seek attention in all forms. There is no way for them to make an unassuming entrance as their dramatic nature shines through on almost every occasion - especially since dragons also occasionally hide behind walls when interacting with others so that only those closest can see just how soft-hearted they really are!

Year of the Snake

Chinese Zodiac Snake Years: 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, 2025, 2037

The Snake is a mystic who runs in the most alluring way. You are always on the go, and people will follow you everywhere, seeking your advice because they know that with these antennae up, there’s no mystery to be found within yourself or those around them. Though some may see this as an enigmatic personality trait, others just admire it for its uniqueness. The Snake can connect harmoniously best with Rooster or Ox, but if you want more than friendship from someone else, then maybe Rat would suit instead?

The Snake’s style resonates deeply. The snake moves sensually through their day-to-day life, which draws many eyes towards him/her when he walks by in public places, often causing conversations about spiritual insight due to his /her mysticism.

Year of the Horse

Chinese Zodiac Horse Years: 1918, 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014, 2026

You love to be in the spotlight. You enjoy being free of restraints and have a flair for creativity, but you also like knowing where your limits are at times. Your desires can overwhelm you if not kept in check so try keeping Tiger or Dog by your side as they will help keep that fire under control while providing all-around support!

Year of the Sheep

Chinese Zodiac Sheep Years: 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015, 2027, 2039, 2051

Sheep are the people who live in harmony with nature, and they have a very grounded way of handling life. Sheep can be found grazing on someone else’s field to stay afloat if their own doesn’t yield prosperity for them. The good news is that when you team up with a Rabbit or Pig who is a financially flush person, it won’t matter because you two will get along well together!

Year of the Monkey

Chinese Zodiac Monkey Years: 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016, 2028

Monkey is a creature of contradictions. They are cunning, charming, and whimsical while also being contradictory in nature. It has been said that when chaos ensues, the Monkey archetype brings order to the situation with its joker-like antics. Operating from behind curtains during daily life, they prefer to work without recognition as much as possible but will make thoughtful gifts for those who show them affection or appreciation, oftentimes cheering up Dragons and Rats alike!

Year of the Rooster

Chinese Zodiac Rooster Years:  1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017, 2029

You always have a positive attitude, and even when life falls apart, you find the silver lining. You are an adventurous soul who loves to live in the moment. Naturally vocal (sometimes to your own detriment), leadership opportunities eventually come your way as well! Travel is often just around the corner for you, often taking friends along with it for fun times together! As hardworking individuals, Roosters take pride in their work ethic and attentiveness towards others; this makes them great partners on many levels of compatibility: sexy Snake or Ox?

Year of the Dog

Chinese Zodiac Dog Years: 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018, 2030

Dogs are sensitive and loyal animals. They care deeply for those they love and often go to great lengths to protect them or make sure that their needs are met. If a dog feels threatened, it can growl but typically prefers gentle companionship over conflict. Dogs have an uncanny knack of sniffing out problems as well as smelling when someone is lying, which makes them ideal mates for the tiger or Horse!

Year of the Pig

Chinese Zodiac Pig Years: 1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019, 2031, 2043

Pig’s ability to think things through honestly and sincerely makes every last drop run right off. Pigs love farming, far away from the hustle and bustle. You are drawn to the pigs for their honesty in life; they don’t let other people or situations get them down easily. They have prosperity running through their blood as well as a hunger for lavishness. That is why Pig partners romantically with Dragon and Sheep equally well!

Summary:  The Chinese Zodiac is fascinating because it’s a little different from the Western version. The 12 animals are much more detailed, and there are stories that go along with each animal to help you understand the meaning of your sign, but we didn’t stop yet! Next up is Native American Animal Astrology and Celtic Zodiac!

Zodiac and Birth Animal Totems

Native American Zodiac

As an educated and erudite scholar of the Zodiac, I feel that it is my duty to share with you what this amazing branch has to offer. The Native American or traditional Zodiac may not be as popular in Western culture, but just because we’re unaccustomed doesn’t mean there isn’t anything new for us to discover about ourselves through these signs. For starters, many people are familiar with the Chinese horoscope too, where each year corresponds roughly to a different animal sign around December—January (eagle, goat, etc.). Similarly, when looking at US society from a purely anthropological standpoint, it would make sense if there was some sort of belief system on animals influencing our human lives, too, right? That’s exactly how things work here: Each month corresponds to a different animal depending on what day you were born. For example, someone born on August 10 would likely be linked with the Wood Goat. While this may sound like an unlikely pairing at first, it makes a lot of sense when you look into it further.

Otter Totem

Northern Hemisphere: January 20 – February 18

Southern Hemisphere: July 22 – August 22

Otters are some of the unique people. They’re always out-of-the-box thinkers with a lot to offer in terms of creativity and success, thanks to their great sense of humor! Otters know how to work hard, too - they make excellent parents and friends because they have deep thoughts about what it means for them to be balanced as individuals just like everyone else should try to do.

Wolf Totem

Northern Hemisphere: February 19 – March 20

Southern Hemisphere:  August 23 September 22

Wolf is tender and affectionate. They love with a deep passion, but they also need their space sometimes to feel like themselves again. If you can provide that balance for the long term, Wolf will be your best friend forever!

Falcon Totem

Northern Hemisphere: March 21 – April 19

Southern Hemisphere: September 23 – October 22

When you need someone who is quick to act and never gives up, Falcon is the person for you. Born with a fiery personality that knows how to make an impact in any team-oriented environment, this individual will be able to provide excellent leadership skills as well if their opinions are respected by others. If there’s anything extra special about your love life - it just may involve this tattooed bird of prey!

Beaver Totem

Northern Hemisphere: April 20 – May 20

Southern Hemisphere: October 24 – November 21

Beavers have a natural talent for business and are considered to be the most practical animal. They’re very efficient in completing their tasks but can also be pushy about how things get built. Beavers usually stick with what they know best, which is why they tend to thrive within their own space where they are loyal, caring members of society who give generously from themselves even if it means sacrificing time or resources.

Deer Totem

Northern Hemisphere: May 21 – June 20

Southern Hemisphere: November 22 – December 21

Deer are typically gentle, humorous creatures that seem to have a joie de vivre. They come in handy when there’s nothing that anyone feels like talking about at the party - people often invite them just for good conversations! Deer can be prim and preppy sometimes, but they’re always energetic, which seems contagious even if it doesn’t look like they’re trying too hard.

Woodpecker Totem

Northern Hemisphere: June 21 – July 21

Southern Hemisphere: December 22 – January 19

Woodpeckers are a blessing to have around! They’re always tapping on my door, but I know they’re just looking for some food. It’s true that you could not ask them for better partnerships and friends because of their devotion and passion - although it can be hard in the winter months when they go into hibernation. But with so many different symbols bringing good luck from protection against snakebites to prosperity, who needs an alarm clock?

Salmon Totem

Northern Hemisphere: July 22 – August 21

Southern Hemisphere: January 20 – February 18

Salmon is an enthusiastic creature that provides stability and sensuality willingly. Native Americans see Salmon as a goal-oriented creature who, with the right person, can provide much success in life.

Bear Totem

Northern Hemisphere: August 22 – September 21

Southern Hemisphere: February 19 – March 20

Bear is not just a powerful animal in the wild. They are also one of the most level-headed people. Bears take into consideration various opinions and offer sound reasoning as well. Native Americans believe that Bear’s shy nature comes from how they seem when you see them on TV or at your local zoo – but know this: Bears love very deeply! They are patient and generous too, which makes for good parenting (just don’t mess with their family).

Raven Totem

Northern Hemisphere: September 22 – October 22

Southern Hemisphere: March 21 – April 19

Raven’s love of shiny and pretty things comes in handy in the business world. Thanks to their charm, they’re quite a tycoon and capitalist. This isn’t sneaky, though. Raven responds well with those that likewise give back or care about them as much as themselves. In relationships, our Ravens show us romance deep down inside while also being clever enough not to be tricked by other less-than-honest individuals out there looking for easy prey!

Snake Totem

Northern Hemisphere: October 23 – November 22

Southern Hemisphere: April 20 – May 20

The Snake is a symbol of the shaman’s sacred calling. The Snake sheds its skin to grow, and Native Americans see it as an earth-wise teacher, sensitive healer, and spiritual guide that provides motivation for humor with friends or family. But when it comes down to their soul’s contract, they take this very seriously because snakes are often thought of as being reclusive creatures who don’t like sharing personal information about themselves with others in life.

Owl Totem

Northern Hemisphere: November 23 – December 21

Southern Hemisphere: May 21 – June 20

Owls are most commonly a sign of wisdom and intelligence. This animal is said to bring about peace, prosperity, and good fortune for those that live near them. They tend to have an adventurous spirit with high risk-taking tendencies but will also be meticulous in their protection of nature. As partners, they are great listeners as long as you give the Owl room periodically so it can fly away from home too!

Snow Goose Totem

Northern Hemisphere: December 22 – January 19

Southern Hemisphere: June 21 – July 21

For those born under the Snow Goose sign, it is not all about silly games. They are goal-oriented and determined to achieve success in their work. The sexual union with a compatible partner can be quite sensual, playful, and expressive for these people. Without that connection, they become gloomy or obsessed by what has gone wrong in life so far - no matter how much of an optimist others may think them to be!

Zodiac & Birth Animal Totems

Celtic Zodiac & Astrology

The Celtic Zodiac, like many other astrological systems around the world, is composed of 12 animals. These animal symbols are assigned to a month and signify aspects in that person’s life, such as what their strengths may be or how they will feel during different times throughout the year. This system combines cultural influence with natural observation, which allows it to have its own fairly unique set of traits from some others we’ve looked at so far!

Celtic Stag

December 24 – January 20

People born under the sign of The Stag have an incredible ability to create a vision and see it through. They are patient, diligent individuals who usually succeed with their projects by taking them seriously without giving up. Integrity is very important for these people as they believe in being true to themselves at all times, which also means not lying because that would be seen as an unforgivable betrayal - something no one can ever come back from!

Celtic Cat

January 21 – February 17

In Celtic tradition, cats are fast and smart. They use their psychic senses and intuitive abilities to reason through the most confusing of situations. Cats don’t always look at things in a traditional way. When you need an outside perspective on your situation, call out for help from Cat people instead! In relationships with others, these individuals observe closely but also allow themselves some creative space where they can be expressive as well.

Celtic Snake

February 18 – March 17

The Snake is one of the most versatile creatures on Earth. From observing human behavior to singing, and from writing essays to giving lectures, Snake can do it all! The best part about them, though? They are very flexible. No matter what situation they’re in, you’ll never catch this animal being rigid or unable to change based on its surroundings.

Celtic Fox

March 18 – April 14

The Celts believe that Fox is a very clever force with sensual energy. They always look for the next exciting adventure or story to engage their hungry mind. This animal acts like the class clown and can also be brave when needed - especially if it means defending those they love. A lot of people think foxes are really cute, but there’s no doubt that these animals have some hidden talents!

Celtic Bull

April 15 – May 12

The Bull is as loyal and stable as the day is long. In many ways they are like a knight, always there to protect or lend an ear when needed. Don’t try to fool them, though - nothing escapes their notice! If you need someone who can keep your secrets safe - look no further than the Bull.

Celtic Seahorse

May 13 – June 9

The water horse is a symbol of creative and financial aptitude. Once you cross them, they’ll remember your offense for years to come, and it’s nearly impossible to get back into their good graces again. They are alluring creatures who like things balanced in their lives: not too much or not too little. Love will do just fine as long as some spice is added every now and then!

Seahorses have strong energies of the water element, which means that creativity shines bright with these folks - especially when it comes down to finances! These people have an excellent memory, so don’t think they’ve forgotten about something because if there was ever any crossing between the two parties involved, they wouldn’t forget anytime soon!

Celtic Wren

June 10 – July 7

The Celtic Wren is a bird with fresh insights that make them an all-around great creature. They have really cool thoughts and never give up, even when things get tough!

Celtic Horse

July 8 – August 4

Horses come with great zeal and power. They enter any space they are in with flair, style, and a determination to show off their prowess! Their competitive nature drives them forward while also helping those around them if the Horse is given the accolades for it. You can bet on horses but never against one because of the fact that these powerful creatures know how to measure up to their competition successfully!

Celtic Fish

August 5 – September 1

Those born under the sign of Fish in Celtic astrology, such as salmon or trout, can be inspiring and visionary. Fish people make amazing artists through any medium because they dive deep into their emotions before emerging with treasure.

Celtic Swan

September 2 – September 29

Never underestimate the power of a Swan. They may be graceful and elegant creatures, but they have morals that are in no way, shape, or form any less than your own. You will always know their love is true because it burns within them with an undying passion like none other - if you’re lucky enough to catch its eye. But don’t let yourself fall for one too quickly; not only can they organize anything into something beautiful, but also offer perspectives from all points of view as well!

Never underestimate the strength behind these gentle souls: even when silent, swans’ morality never falters, just like yours does not either (and probably theirs is more acute).

Celtic Butterfly

September 30 – October 27

The Celtic social butterfly enjoys a life full of beauty and curiosity. The qualities that make the Butterfly so unique are their ability to feel deeply yet travel the world in search of new experiences. Dreamers with an intuitive nature can always find ways to lift someone’s moods back up when needed the most!

Celtic Wolf

October 28 – November 24

Some people say that life is a battle, and those born under the sign of Wolf are always looking for their next fight, never giving up until they have achieved victory. They will bravely face any challenge head-on with courage and passion, showing immense bravery in doing so. Upholding honor as one of their core values does not deter them from pursuing what they believe to be right, even if it makes others uncomfortable or causes controversy. However, due to this intense drive, some may find themselves isolated at times because they’re too focused on achieving goals rather than building connections that could otherwise enrich their lives.

Celtic Hawk

November 25 – December 23

The Falcon is a bird of keen vision and focus. They have the drive to see things through, as well as an energy that allows them to teach their knowledge without question. Their generosity is also known throughout, with no questions about honesty in any situation.
